What to Know

Critics Consensus

Benefitting from Lance Henriksen's rugged star power, Millennium is another absorbing -- if markedly inferior to The X-Files -- foray into science fiction by creator Chris Carter.

Cinephemeride [ Great series by Chris Carter, a little hidden in the shadow of The X-Files, but of unparalleled quality and darkness with a very great Lance Henriksen Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Jacob B A dark and disturbing show with none of The X-Files' levity, Millennium has its share of weak episodes and usual first-season issues but it is a police procedural that, in the pre-CSI era, felt truly ahead of its time. Lance Henriksen delivers a terrific performance as Frank Black, the show does a good job delving into why people commit certain vile acts and there are some truly riveting episodes such as Frank searching for his brother's missing wife. One of the things I loved the most about this season however were the moments where Frank was bonding with his daughter and being a good dad. These heartwarming moments tended to be more memorable than the Seven-inspired narratives, in my opinion, at least. These moments helped to give Frank a reason to have something worth fighting for and provided the light to balance out the darkness. Chris Carter even said on the BTS featurette on the DVD that "the house" provided this aforementioned proverbial light. While Millennium might not have been quite the pop culture phenomenon that its sister show was, this first season still provides its share of dark content whilst taking risks that The X-Files wasn't willing to, making this a solid thriller show in its own right.P.S. I know about the massive retooling between seasons, don't worry. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Allan T It is a decent show... way better than the fake "Apprentice" type reality shows (if you know what I mean). The only thing is that, as the typical violent crime investigation shows, the cases are always solved, which does not reflect reality at all. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/23/22 Full Review evil i This was a fantastic Television show. Chris Carters endeavor after Xfiles. The show worked conspiracy/ shadow group affecting world events angle. There was a hint of other worldly machinations, but it was primarily a straight forward mystery/ thriller show. Lance Henriksen was fantastic in the lead roll. Megan Gallagher and Terry O'Quinn were capable costars. Mark Snow was carried over to add the soundtrack, another added highlight. In our time of divisiveness and run amok conspiracies behind every door, I highly recommend binging this show if you can find it. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member From Chris Carter, creator of The X-Files, comes the dark, quasi-supernatural, crime drama Millennium. Season 1 follows former FBI agent Frank Black who moves his family to Seattle and becomes a consultant on criminal investigation as part of the Millennium Group; a group of specialists that investigate crimes of a violent or unusual nature. Starring Lance Henriksen, Megan Gallagher, and Terry O'Quinn, the show has a solid cast that delivers some good performances. And a number of interesting guest stars are featured, including CCH Pounder, Paul Dooley, Brad Dourif, and Jeffery Donovan. Additionally, Carter brings along several X-Files writers and producers, such as Frank Spotnitz, Glen Morgan, and James Wong, which gives the series an early X-Files feel; gritty and atmospheric. Going to the dark and disturbing places that most police procedures won't, Millennium delivers a strong first season.
